Climate Change
Understanding Change. Strengthening Resilience Advancing Sustainable Solutions.
Climate change presents complex environmental, social, economic, and cultural challenges. IIKCC brings together Indigenous knowledge, cultural perspectives, and modern scientific approaches to better understand these challenges and support locally relevant responses.
Our Focus
Climate Knowledge & Research
Exploring climate change through interdisciplinary research that brings together scientific evidence, Indigenous observations, and community experience.
Indigenous Climate Solutions
Documenting and promoting Indigenous practices, technologies, and knowledge that contribute to climate adaptation, environmental stewardship, and resilience.
Communities & Resilience
Supporting communities in developing practical approaches to climate-related risks affecting livelihoods, ecosystems, agriculture, water, and cultural heritage.
Environment & Sustainability
Promoting sustainable approaches to the management of land, water, biodiversity, forests, and other natural resources.
Climate Education & Awareness
Creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, dialogue, training, and public engagement on climate change and sustainable development.
Policy & Practice
Connecting research and Indigenous knowledge with policymakers, institutions, communities, and development partners to inform practical and culturally responsive climate action.
Our Approach
IIKCC recognizes that addressing climate change requires multiple knowledge systems. We create space for Indigenous knowledge, cultural understanding, and scientific research to interact and complement one another.
Through research, documentation, collaboration, education, and community engagement, the Institute seeks to contribute to climate responses that are evidence-based, culturally informed, locally relevant, and sustainable.
